Welcome to the 2012 Tax Season. Tax Filing Due Date moved to April 17th, 2012.
Since April 15th falls on a Sunday this year, the tax due date would normally be on Monday. However, Monday is a holiday in Washington (Emancipation Day) so the Federal offices are closed, therefore the tax due date is then pushed to Tuesday, April 17th. New Jersey and surrounding states are following the IRS due date as well.
For taxpayers that need more than just the two extra days to file their tax returns, we can prepare and electronically submit an extension of time to file the 2011 tax return to October 15, 2012. This gives the taxpayer more time to gather the data to be able to file an accurate return, but it does not extend the time to pay any taxes that may be due for 2011, so a reasonable estimate should be made and the taxes submitted with the extension forms.
Let us know if you would like to have an extension of time to file prepared for you and we will have that done by the 17th.
This has been an interesting tax season, we look forward to working with you in 2012.
